The role of Euroregion Silva Nortica within the cross-border co-operation and the formation of regional identity

The thesis examines the impact of euroregion Silva Nortica on cross-border cooperation and regional identity. Silva Nortica as the newest Czech euroregion is located in Czech-Austrian borderland. The situation in the euroregion is analyzed through quantitative and qualitative research to offer a complex view on the issue. In context of institutional framework conditions the questionnaire survey together with guided interviews with representatives of the euroregion was analyzed. The thesis also offers possible ways of future development of the euroregion. The results show a good potential among locals to build a cross-border community. However, on the institutional level there are many problematic factors as constrains in future development of cross-border cooperation in Czech-Austrian borderland. The open border with Austria: a chance for development of the frontier town of České Velenice?

This bachelor thesis focuses on the socioeconomic development of the border town of České Velenice between 1989 and 2004. The aim of the thesis is to examine the opportunities the immediate proximity of Austria after the fall of the Iron Curtain provided the city with. The bachelor thesis first introduces the socioeconomic situation in České Velenice after 1989 and then delineates the beginnings of cooperation with the Austrian counterpart, while also focusing on the importance of knowledge of German language for mutual economic relations. In the second chapter, the thesis deals with the changes in the local economic structure as a part of the economic transformation and maps the process and results of the small-scale privatization with regard to the location of the town on the border with Austria. The third chapter is devoted to economic activities. Here the thesis deals with local and foreign labour market and addresses the activities of Czech legal and illegal workers in the Austrian labour market. With regard to the border location of the city, the chapter also deals with business activities in České Velenice. It covers the bilateral project of the Industrial park ACCESS and the entry of Austrian companies to the Czech border area.

Krajina v pohraničí a její specifika

The aim of this work is to describe and compare landscape in the border regions of the Czech Republic and Austria. For analysis and comparison, two adjoining cadastral areas (one in each state) České Velenice and Gmünd were selected. Following work is divi-ded into two sections (literature review and practical part). In the literature review, there is defined basic concepts of landscape, eg. landscape genesis, division, composition, structure, classification, etc. Selected border regions and Vitorazsko region are also described in review. In the practical part, the comparative method is used to evaluate the principles of management, tourism and land use in areas České Velenice and Gmünd. Historical data (maps) and present conditions are also compared using method mentioned above. In the last section of this chapter, there are described selected cross-border cooperations between České Velenice and Gmünd. From an overall comparison of changes in the cadastral areas České Velenice and Gmünd follows that occurred distinct change in the increase in the soil sealing and ex-pansion of forests. As a result of these changes was to reduce area the farmlands.

The thesis describes development and sense of cross-border co-operation in Czech - Austrian border region especially in Euroregio Silva Nortica. There is described the development of cross-border co-operation from the beginning until programme period 2007-2013 in the theoretical part of the thesis. The practical part is focused on Austrian-Czech border region and analyzes the Operation Programme ETC AT-CZ 2007 2013 and its specific objectives. Then there is characterized Euroregio Silva Nortica, its activities, results and position in cross-border co-operation.
